Aquaman Has Become The Highest Grossing DC Comics Movie Ever

By Todd BlackJanuary 27, 2019
Aquaman Review Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom

Ladies and gentlemen, we now live in a world where Aquaman has beaten Batman in box office totals. Oh yeah, it’s real. Granted, many predicted that this would happen given the incredible response to the film in foreign markets such as China, but now it’s actually happened!

Aquaman is the highest grossing DC Comics superhero movie ever. Period. Its biggest competition were a duo of Batman films with The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises. The King of Atlantis had already passed the Dark Knight, but now, with this weekends totals at the box office, it’s surpassed Rises as well with a grand total of 1.09 BILLION dollars.

It was already a big deal when the film made a billion (the first of the DCEU films to do so) but now, with this? It sets a whole new standard for the films in the universe. Which Warner Bros fully acknowledges, as they claim to be focusing more on “solo films”, with the exception of Birds of Prey and Suicide Squad 2 of course.

Now the obvious question is…”Aquaman 2?” The answer is obviously “Yes”, and as Deadline reports, Warner Bros has opened talks to get Director James Wan back, and he is willing…should the script be good. Which is fair when you think about it.

Needless to say, ALL of the big superhero movies this year are going to have to try to live up to the box office total that Aquaman got last year. Avengers: Endgame will get a billion no doubt, but will Captain Marvel, Shazam!, Spider-Man Far From Home or Joker even come close to that? Only time will tell.

If you somehow haven’t seen the film yet, then check out our review of it! We loved the movie, and if you’re looking for a fun and epic superhero movie to tide you over until March, this is it!
