There has been, in the wings, a remake of Fate/EXTRA, an old dungeon crawler RPG that took place in a different universe from the main Fate universe most are used to. We haven’t had a lot of information surrounding the remake until today, when a reveal trailer appeared at the PlayStation State of Play. Fate/EXTRA Record revealed that the team at Type-Moon is still developing the remake, and the publisher will be XSEED Games. Aniplex is also helping publish the game.
Based on Fate/EXTRA, which released on the PlayStation Portable in 2010, Fate/EXTRA Record revises and expands the narrative to add new layers and depth to one of the franchise’s core entries, while also modernizing the title’s audio-visual presentation and adding an all-new strategic battle system that combines turn-based battles with a unique deck-building system. A new trailer spotlights the latest look at gameplay and improved presentation for the highly anticipated title.
Physical pre-orders for Fate/EXTRA Record will be available soon through the Marvelous USA Online Store and participating retailers for Nintendo Switch and PS5 with a standard edition retailing for $59.99, and on Nintendo Switch 2, where the game will be fully on cartridge, for $69.99. A physical Limited Edition will also be available containing a copy of the game within a custom outer box, a three-disc soundtrack featuring the new score along with the original Fate/EXTRA soundtrack, housed in an accompanying Steelbook case, and an art book featuring over 100 pages of original and concept art for $89.99 on Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5, and $99.99 on Nintendo Switch 2.
Fate/EXTRA Record will also be available digitally on Nintendo Switch , Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation 4 in both standard, $59.99, and Digital Deluxe Editions, $79.99. The Digital Deluxe Edition will include the game, a digital soundtrack, a digital art book, Fate/EXTRA soundtrack DLC, and the “Servant and Player Special Outfits Bundle (Beach Style Set, Night Style Set, Festival Style Set)” cosmetic DLC. Wishlisting for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 digital editions is also now available, with details on digital pre-orders in the Americas and Europe to come at a later date.
After humanity discovered a supercomputer hidden on the moon, everything changed. Known as the Moon Cell Automaton, this powerful computer created SE.RA.PH, a digital world where 128 combatants are pitted against each other for the ultimate prize, the Holy Grail. An omnipotent wish-granting device, the Holy Grail is capable of fulfilling any desire. Now in the role of Masters, these combatants form contracts with Servants, digital beings embodying historical figures and heroes, hoping to be the final victor in this life-or-death battle. Having lost all memories, unable even to recall why they’re trapped inside this virtual battlefield, one such combatant is thrust into the role of Master and must step into the grueling Moon Holy Grail War alongside a single Servant, driven solely by the will to survive.
Players will assume the role of Master and form a contract with one of three Servants – Saber, Archer, or Caster – who will accompany them throughout their journey. As players explore vast digital dungeons and battle enemies with their Servants, their bonds will strengthen, granting both new cards and abilities to aid in their quest for the Holy Grail. Only through defeating all who stand in their way and surviving together will the Master find the hidden truth and their freedom.
Fate/EXTRA Record will be released on January 27th, 2026 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
