The Eminence in Shadow is an anime that I absolutely love. It’s a power fantasy isekai that not only is a satire of the genre but also one that plays the actual genre tropes pretty well. In the video gaming space, there is a mobile game that is popular enough to still get support: The Eminence in Shadow: Master of Garden. I personally have been waiting for a full-on video game that comes to consoles for this Anime in particular because of how fun it would be in this world. Today we got one revealed: The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes.
This title is the first console 3D action roguelite game based on The Eminence in Shadow anime. It adopts “roguelite” elements, in which character abilities are randomly enhanced during each playthrough, allowing players to craft unique builds from a wide variety of combinations and enjoy action combat against challenging enemies.
The debut trailer features an unveiling of the gameplay, showcasing Alpha’s sword moves and Awakening, the ability selection system that forms a key pillar of The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes. Additionally, scenes depicting a wounded Delta and a showdown between Alpha and Shadow were shown near the end of the trailer, offering a brief glimpse into the wild, unpredictable story that will unfold in this title.
The actual gameplay system looks good. Action elements are all over, using the roguelite card system to boost your character’s power further. I do wonder if there will be any story from the anime in the game or if it will be wholly original. This could all turn out to just be a training regimen for the Shadow Garden. All I can say for sure is that I am interested to see how this game turns out.
The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes will release in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
