Throughout the weirdness and chaos that is going on in the DC Comics movie universe, a few films seem to be shining forth as beacons as to what the universe will be going forward. Next year will have Shazam! and the solo Joker movie that appear to be shaping up rather well. In about five weeks, the Aquaman film will arrive, and early reviews are saying it’s quite something. In 2020, it’s going to be the year of the women of DC comics, as Wonder Woman 1984 and Birds of Prey will take the lead, and the latter movie have just found their Cassandra Cain.

For those who don’t know, the Birds of Prey film will bring Harley Quinn, Black Canary, Huntress, Rene Montoya and Cassandra Cain together to fight off the underworld crime lord known as Black Mask. Quinn will be played once again by Margot Robbie, Black Mask was recently cast by Ewan McGregor, and now, Cassandra has been filled via Ella Jay Basco.

Basco is still somewhat of a newcomer on the industry, but she’s had minor roles the last few years in various TV shows.

According to reports, Cassandra is going to incur the wrath of Black Mask, which will prompt Quinn, Huntress and Canary to team up to protect her. As Black Mask is a criminal known mostly in Gotham, this will likely involve the police via Montoya.

In the comics, Cassandra Cain is an assassin born from assassins David Cain and Lady Shiva. She soon defects though to the side of good after meeting Batman, and has numerous alias over the years, including getting a good following after being Batgirl for a while. In the current DC continuity, she’s Orphan, and recently joined The Outsiders.

The Birds of Prey film is going to be released February 7th, 2020.
