‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Gets Second Season, and Other Show Renewals

By Sara Roncero-MenendezNovember 14, 2017

Tis the season…of television renewals, that is. Several shows have announced renewals, including the Emmy-winning, internet darling The Handmaid’s Tale. Season two of the dystopian series will premiere on Hulu in April of 2018.

Hulu also renewed The Path, their show about a cult, will start its third season on January 17, 2018. Their new limited series about 9/11 The Looming Tower will debut on February 28, 2018. Pre-Apocalyptic crime series The Hard Sun will start its first season on March 7, 2018.

Not all is good news for Hulu’s original shows. Difficult People, starring Billy Eichner and Julie Klausner, was cancelled after three seasons. It seems strange, given the success and critical acclaim of the show, and of course no reason was given for the show’s sudden drop from the line-up.

Many other streaming services followed suit. Netflix also revealed that part 2 of Fuller House Season 3 would be hitting the subscription service on December 22nd. Chewing Gum will, supposedly, return for a third season, but there is no set date as the star Michaela Coel is currently working on other projects. CMT is bringing Nashville back for a sixth season on January 4, 2018.

As many fall shows begin to wrap up their offerings, you can expect more news of renewals and cancelling for new entries and old favorites. What other shows are destined for the chopping block? We’ll have to see what announcements await us.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
