Tides of Annihilation is a game I have been looking forward to for a while. It showed up in February of this year, and then the development team has been quiet about it ever since. That stops today as a new trailer was just unveiled for the game.
Kun Fu, the producer of Tides of Annihilation, gives a breakdown in this trailer. It is a trailer showcasing the technical aspects of the game rather than the gameplay. Kun Fu reveals that it has entered into a partnership with Epic and various chip providers, such as NVIDIA. NVIDIA helped the team provide path tracing as well as ray tracing to the game. They have also teamed up with Tencent to help out with other technical aspects, such as clothing physics, face expressions, and other details that help Tides of Annihilation come to life.
“To achieve our technical goals for Tides of Annihilation, we are taking a two-fold approach,” stated Kun Fu, Producer of Tides of Annihilation. “We want to push the visual ceiling to the absolute limit of current technology for our game, and are equally committed to rigorous optimization. We want to ensure that every player, regardless of their setup, experiences a smooth and immersive journey in our re-envisioned modern Arthurian action-adventure. We’re very excited to have gamers around the world experience Tides of Annihilation for the first time in this hands-on event.”
Eclipse Glow Games also unveiled a behind-the-scenes look at the technical evolution of the project. The studio is working directly with engineers at Unreal Engine and NVIDIA to ensure that the game’s ambitious visual ceiling is matched by rock-solid stability and frame rate performance across all platforms.
- Unreal Engine Integration: Wei Liu, Technical Director of Unreal Engine China, revealed that the teams have conducted a systematic analysis of CPU and GPU bottlenecks for Tides of Annihilation. This collaboration has resulted in a refined animation and gameplay logic pipeline that significantly reduces computational overhead.
- Nanite-Based Innovation: Kai Yuan, Lead Technical Artist of Tides of Annihilation, detailed the use of Unreal Engine’s proprietary Nanite-based setup specifically for the encounters with “Giant Knights.” This system utilizes automated collision and shadow optimization to preserve the high-mode texture fidelity during high-speed movement without compromising runtime performance.
- NVIDIA Path Tracing & Driver Optimization: Building on previously announced support for DLSS and path tracing, NVIDIA is providing deep performance analysis and driver-level optimization. This ensures that players on a wide range of hardware configurations can enjoy a smooth, cinematic experience.
Tides of Annihilation is currently being developed for PC for both Steam and Epic Game Store, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5.
