During Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live, CD Projekt Red had several surprises in store for fans, including the official reveal of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered. The upgraded version of the acclaimed action RPG will be released on September 29, 2026.
This was not the first time we had heard about a possible remaster of The Witcher 3, but CD Projekt Red had remained quiet about it. With The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past and The Witcher 4 receiving most of the attention lately, many of us had nearly forgotten that the remaster was reportedly still in development.
CD Projekt Red made up for the silence by confirming that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered will be available as a free upgrade for anyone who already owns the base game on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, the Epic Games Store, or GOG. The remaster will also support the PlayStation 5 Pro, although CD Projekt Red did not explain what enhancements players can expect from Sony’s upgraded console.
The game will also make its Nintendo Switch 2 debut alongside a new Battle.net release, which is certainly an unexpected storefront for Geralt to show up on. Still, there is nothing wrong with making the game available in even more places.
Developed by CD Projekt Red alongside Yigsoft, the remaster will feature improvements to the game’s visuals, performance, combat, traversal, movement, Witcher Sign effects, mount handling, and monster behavior. Other additions include a revamped skill tree, transmogrification, an expanded Photo Mode, new finishers, and several other gameplay improvements.
Both of the game’s previously released expansions, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine, will also be included with the remastered release. CD Projekt Red also announced that existing owners of The Witcher 3 will receive access to both expansions for free, giving anyone who missed them another reason to return before the remaster arrives.
The Battle.net release is part of a collaboration between CD Projekt Red and Blizzard Entertainment. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered and the upcoming Songs of the Past expansion will both be available through Blizzard’s platform. Players who purchase Songs of the Past through Battle.net will also unlock a Geralt-inspired skin in Diablo IV, with more details expected during BlizzCon 2026.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered launches on September 29, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC through Steam, the Epic Games Store, GOG, and Battle.net. The Songs of the Past expansion will follow sometime in 2027.
