Today during Gamescom, Square Enix shared a new epic trailer for Final Fantasy VII Revelation. This trailer for the third game in the Final Fantasy VII Remake series showed off the Weapons. And just to clarify for the uninitiated, we’re not talking about Cloud’s Buster Sword. Rather, Weapons are gargantuan beasts that defend the planet.
Director Naoki Hamaguchi took to the stage to announce their reveal. He noted that the trailer would focus on these “massive creatures that Cloud and his team of legendary heroes will face in the final chapter of their epic journey.”
In the words of Rufus Shinra, secondary antagonist of the game, they’re “towering monstrosities.” Barret notes that they’re technically “guardians of the planet. But Cid Highwind interjects, saying, “You call them planetary warriors. But I call them weapons of mass destruction.” And the Weapons certainly loom large in the trailer and live up to their name(s). We see them wiping out a platoon of Shinra troopers, rampaging through an underwater base, and taking on The Highwind, the team’s airship.

But that’s not all. The upcoming finale to the trilogy will include new modes of traversing Gaia. “Final Fantasy VII Revelation will deliver an unforgettable experience in a world without boundaries,” Hamaguchi noted.
And this is certainly the case in the trailer. We previously got a look during a trailer from Summer Games Fest of our heroes parachuting from the Highwind. We see that again here. But we also get a look at more of the events onboard the Highwind. Additionally, there’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it shot of the team navigating underwater via submarine. We also see Yuffie using a grappling hook. And Chocobos show up, of course.
This newest look, entitled “The Planet’s Crisis” trailer, shows off three Weapons in particular. There’s the desert-dwelling Ruby Weapon, and the aforementioned underwater Emerald Weapon. Then there’s the extra-powerful Ultima Weapon. Though not highlighted, the game will also feature Diamond Weapon and Sapphire Weapon. Final Fantasy VII Revelation should offer a number of epic battles. Oh, and don’t forget the enormous meteor looming in the sky. The gang certainly looks to have their hands full in this one.
In a press release, Square Enix confirmed that players will be able to fight these monstrosities, or at least a few of them. “Upon desert sands, in mid-air dogfights and at the bottom of the sea,” players will encounter the Weapons, “some of which appear in ultra-challenging endgame battles.” This tracks with the original Final Fantasy VII, in which players could hunt down the Weapons and do battle in the late-game.
The trailer also shows another glimpse of the job-like FITS system, giving each character a class based on their outfit. Cloud and Tifa take on a dragon in their Warrior and Black Mage FITS, respectively, This is capped off by Tifa summoning Typhon, a new Summon in the game.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch in Spring 2027. Notably, it will arrive simultaneously for PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
