Just when we were about to lose hope, The New Virtua Fighter Project makes a comeback into the public with some new gameplay to show off. Leaked is mostly it for this with some producer commentary involved. Virtua Fighter vets Pai and Wolf get rounds with the newcomer in the leaked footage, that we still have no idea where the footage originated from. The footage had a sub name called “crossroads”. As to what this means, it’s not determined yet. Video Game Estorica did an analysis on the screens.
Pai has some of her moveset still here including Meishouho Gekiryuha, which is a bit of a command move within itself off of a stance. Pai has had this one since Final Showdown or possibly since Virtua Fighter 5’s beginning.
The Mystery Man Has A Name
The teased character now has a name – Cielo. In Spanish, it means “sky” or “heavens”. For what he seems to dish out might be more hell than heaven. From the clips, Cielo could be another MMA style fighter here with ground tackles, kicks, and other ways to bring the pain. This might be the Brad of the game, but maybe Brad will be able to come back himself. Brad was the Mauy Thai fighter of the VF series.
The newcomers Cielo and Stella are shown in a bit of a Versus screen showing Type, Weight, and Difficulty, attributes for two. Then, they were scrapping. There are shots of the new UI in some parts in what looks to be a demo. 3 shot replays are coming back during the end of the fight. The UI throws things into black and yellow for Excellent, and Knockout.
This could have been what Sega wanted to show off during Combo Breaker. Sega has yet to comment on their own about this themselves, but this could be what we’ve been waiting for in terms of an update to the New Virtua Fighter Project. The breakdown last year was the last thing shown in terms of an update.
