Japan Is Getting Mother 3 Via Nintendo Switch Online, No Release For US As Of Yet

By Todd BlackFebruary 21, 2024
Mother 3

Do you ever feel that someone or something is out to get you? That no matter how much you want something, something always prevents you from getting it? For Nintendo fans in the West, that feeling is tied to Mother 3. The game is one of the great “missing links” regarding localization, and yet The Big N has been fine with keeping it away from gamers for decades. The reason it’s so odd is that the other two entries in the Earthbound series (as it’s known in the West) have come out on Nintendo Switch Online, but not the third entry. Well, except that on today’s Nintendo Direct Partner Showcase, they did make an announcement about it…

Yep, Mother 3 is coming to Nintendo Switch Online…in Japan! So, once again, those of us in the West are not going to get the title. This is almost a bad joke at this point, except that no one is laughing. Will it ever get localized? We can only speculate, but with each Direct that passes, it becomes more and more unlikely.
