Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced came out on July 9th, 2026. You can check out our review for it here. However, many of us are collectively entering our pirate arc for the first time. Black Flag Resynced is my first impression of Black Flag in general, and it is taking me on a fun journey of looting, annoying robbers, and being thrust into a new adventure. Black Flag has a big world, one that can get you turned around in quite easily if you’re ignoring waypoints and primarily exploring.
Here are my five tips for new players in Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Tip #1: Loot, Loot, Loot!

Wine, money, spices, all of it, make sure you loot it all and hold on to it. You don’t know when you’ll need it to escape a situation, or what you’ll need to craft. From crafting to obtaining money to getting better gear, looting everything is one of the primary ways to have the best experience possible in this game. You will always be prepared for anything that comes your way.
Looting early on gives you the upper hand and lets you stock up on needed items. Being stuck without enough gold to purchase a necessary item when you need it is not the most ideal situation. In order to avoid that, LOOT!
Tip #2: View the Codex Often

The codex has a lot of incredibly useful information about your journey, your character, controls, fast travel and more! The codex entries (alongside the notes you obtain throughout the game) will give you a better understanding of the world you’re in.
Context matters when you’re traversing any Assassin’s Creed game; Black Flag is no different. While yes, you can get by just fine without checking the codex, in my opinion you will have a more well-rounded journey by making sure that checking the codex as well as the notes you collect, is one of your priorities.
Tip #3: Follow The Leader

If you need to follow someone with ease, long press X (if you’re using a PS5 controller). I’m using a PS5 controller on my PC. I know, I’m such a rebel. While you’re getting used to the game’s layout, it’s beneficial to use the follow tool to avoid getting lost. While this game is linear, it is also semi-open world.
Until you cancel following someone, you will always be following that person, even if it’s after a cutscene and you’re performing another task. This could prove useful if you simply want to mainline the story and not do any heavy-duty exploration until later.
Tip #4 Stock Up!

This, to a degree goes in tandem with looting and robbing. Be sure to go to the general store or any store for that matter to stock up on supplies and weapons. Keep in mind, some stores will only trade with ship captains.
It is crucial to stock up on items such as healing, smoke bombs, weapons, anything you can think of. That way when the time comes, you’re not in a pinch, so having something easily accessible on your person to use for the right moment is a plus.
Tip #5 Don’t Be Afraid to Run

Fighting large hordes of enemies in Black Flag can get pretty overwhelming. Don’t be afraid to just drop a smoke bomb, run, regroup, and think about a different game plan. Approaching a fight or situation in game from a different angle, or ignoring it if possible, until later is an option.
This is why I say to stock up on items a-plenty, you’ll be able to have what you need to get out of a less than desirable situation.
Conclusion
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has so much to offer in just the few hours I’ve experienced this game. From an intense story right out of the gate, to a smooth gameplay experience! There are so many things still to discover, bootees to collect, and a story to unearth!
