Gundam Rogue Orbit made its debut during Summer Game Fest 2026, and I’ll be honest, my first reaction was confusion. I saw the mecha. I saw that face, the kind that instantly screams Gundam. But the way it moved threw me off completely.
What was shown was fast, aggressive, and almost frantic in a way that most Gundam games just aren’t. Outside of the Vs. series, this franchise has built its reputation on a slower, more tactical pace, so watching Gundam Helix tear across the screen didn’t feel like anything I’d seen from Gundam before. Honestly, I thought it was new DLC for Armored Core VI, which we really do need.
And as a big Gundam fan, that confusion turned into excitement fast. I wanted to know everything I could about this game. There isn’t a ton of information out there yet, but that’s not stopping me. Every time something new drops, I’ll be adding it to this list.
Alright, on to the good stuff.
What Is Gundam Rogue Orbit?
Gundam Rogue Orbit is a new high-mobility action game from Bandai Namco Studios that takes the Gundam franchise in a different direction. Instead of adapting an existing anime storyline or leaning on one of the long-running timelines, this is being pitched as a brand-new Gundam experience with a new universe, new conflict, and a new main mobile suit leading the charge.
That already makes Gundam Rogue Orbit interesting, since Gundam games can sometimes feel like they are made mostly for people who already know the franchise inside and out. And as someone who’s played his fair share of mecha games, this new title reminds me less of any Gundam game I’ve played and more of the classic Konami title Zone of the Enders and Daemon X Machina, especially because of the speed and mobility we’ve seen in the gameplay.
Is Gundam Rogue Orbit Connected To An Existing Gundam Timeline?
No, Gundam Rogue Orbit is not connected to any existing Gundam timeline. Bandai Namco is calling this a brand-new timeline and an all-new universe, with zero ties to any Gundam universe or game you’ve experienced before. That’s exciting because it means Bandai Namco can build something without hardcore Gundam fans immediately saying, “That’s not my Gundam.”
Mobile Suit Gundam has decades of lore, wars, factions, timelines, and mobile suits behind it. By setting Gundam Rogue Orbit in its own universe, Bandai Namco gives itself room to tell a fresh story without forcing players to do homework before they play.
Who Do You Play As In Gundam Rogue Orbit?
In Gundam Rogue Orbit, players take on the role of RE-X, an ace pilot and the protagonist of this new Gundam story. Bandai Namco has not revealed everything about RE-X yet, but we do know he is part of a rag-tag crew of unsung soldiers fighting against an unknown enemy. That setup already has the kind of Gundam energy you would expect. You have a skilled pilot, a desperate fight for survival, and a crew that sounds like it is being thrown into something much bigger than itself.
And no, this isn’t Amuro. I know the Gundam universe has a habit of pulling characters across timelines, and yes, he did disappear at the end of Char’s Counterattack, but let’s not go down that road until Bandai Namco actually gives us a reason to.
There is also a second character worth watching. Producers Yuya Tomiyama and Shinya Satake have confirmed a character named Sofia, who is shown alongside RE-X in official art, but they’ve stayed tight-lipped about who she actually is. The producers told Game Informer that she has “too many story implications” to discuss this early. That is the kind of tease that usually means she matters a lot more than a side character, so keep an eye on her name as more gets revealed.
What Is The Gundam Helix?
Gundam Helix is the flagship mobile suit in Gundam Rogue Orbit, and Bandai Namco describes it as a high-mobility suit, which lines up with the game’s focus on fast movement, hard-hitting melee combat, and cinematic action. This is also the mobile suit that will likely define Gundam Rogue Orbit in the same way other Gundam timelines have their signature machines.
Fans of previous Gundam shows and games will also notice that, along with its iconic Gundam-style head, the Helix has what appear to be funnels or bits that provide additional firepower. It also carries a massive physical sword that immediately helps it stand apart.
Since this is a new game in a new Gundam universe, Bandai Namco is free to do whatever it wants with the design, and as someone who enjoys Gundam, that has me excited. We still need to see more of what Gundam Helix can actually do, but based on what has been shown so far, this does not look like a slow, lumbering mech. This thing is built to move, hit hard, and probably make a mess of anything standing in its way.
Who Is Currently Working On Gundam Rogue Orbit?
There have been two names that have been revealed to be working on the title; Yuya Tomiyama, and Shinya Satake.
Producer Yuya Tomiyama is no stranger to action games, boasting a resume that includes work on the God Eater and Code Vein series. While Director Shinya Satake brings a similarly deep background in action and action RPG titles, but his real claim to fame here is mecha. He’s worked on several Super Robot Wars titles and, unfortunately, the now-shuttered Gundam Evolution.
Will We Get Gunpla Based On Gundam Rogue Orbit?
I sure as heck hope we do. Bandai Namco has been really good about releasing Gunpla based on games and collaborations, so I can only assume we’ll get something for Gundam Rogue Orbit.
What Kind Of Gameplay Does Gundam Rogue Orbit Have?
From what we’ve seen and what Bandai Namco has said, Gundam Rogue Orbit is being described as a high-mobility action game with fast-paced, hard-hitting combat. From the reveal, it looks like the game is leaning into third-person mech action, with players fighting through enemy hordes, massive bosses, and large environments while pushing Gundam Helix to its limits.
The big thing here is that this game looks aggressive, cinematic, and built to make you feel like you are piloting a powerful mobile suit in the middle of a chaotic battlefield.
Will Gundam Rogue Orbit Be Good For Newcomers?
Yes, at least based on how Bandai Namco is talking about it. Gundam Rogue Orbit is being built as a new entry point for players who may not already know Gundam, while still giving longtime fans something fresh to dig into.
That matters because Gundam can be a lot. There are multiple timelines, different wars, different generations of fans, and enough mobile suit designs to make your head spin. By starting with a new universe, a new pilot, and a new Gundam, Gundam Rogue Orbit has a chance to bring in people who think Gundam looks cool but do not know where to start.
When Will Gundam Rogue Orbit Be Released?
Gundam Rogue Orbit is currently scheduled to be released sometime in 2027. Bandai Namco has not announced an exact release date yet, so for now, we only have the release year to go on. That could change as we get closer to launch, especially once Bandai Namco starts showing more of the game. For now, though, anyone hoping to suit up in Gundam Helix will have to wait until 2027.
What Platforms Is Gundam Rogue Orbit Coming To?
Gundam Rogue Orbit is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. That means this will be a current-generation release, with no PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, or Nintendo Switch 2 version announced at this time.
That platform list is also worth pointing out because Gundam games have not always had the cleanest release history in the West. Seeing this come to PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam right out of the gate is a good sign, especially for players who have been wanting a bigger Gundam action game on modern hardware.
Where Can You See More Of Gundam Rogue Orbit Next?
If you want a closer look before the next big showcase, San Diego Comic-Con is the place to watch. Bandai Namco is bringing Gundam Rogue Orbit to its SDCC booth from July 23 through July 26. A separate free Gunpla workshop will also be held in Mezzanine 19, while attendees at the “GUNDAM Showcase 2026” panel can receive a promotional trading card tied to the game while supplies last.
The panel itself is centered on the reveal of a new Gundam anime, not the game, so don’t expect a major Gundam Rogue Orbit announcement from it. But with Bandai Namco already saying more details are coming in the months ahead, SDCC is as good a bet as any for the next real look at Gundam Helix in action.
What Do We Still Not Know About Gundam Rogue Orbit?
There is still a lot that Bandai Namco has not revealed about Gundam Rogue Orbit. We do not have a clear picture of what is going on with this new Gundam universe, an exact release date, pricing, editions, pre-order details, system requirements, or any word on whether there will be a playable demo before launch.
We also don’t know how deep the customization will go, whether there will be other playable mobile suits, whether the game will include multiplayer or co-op, or how big the campaign actually is. Bandai Namco has already said more details are coming, so this is definitely one of those games where the “everything we know” list is going to grow over time. And trust me, as a fan of Gundam and mecha games, I will update this list as soon as I find out more.
