At Sony’s State of Play this past Wednesday, Mundfish and Team Clout shared a new story trailer for survival horror game ILL. The trailer for the first-person title kicks off with someone waking up in a hospital. Things go from bad to worse. An explosion occurs and before you know it, grotesque monsters roam the halls.
During the State of Play, ILL also received the release window of 2027. The game previously saw a trailer in 2025 at last year’s Summer Games Fest. That one mostly focused on the combat and the monsters. The combat and gameplay incorporate inventory management, limited resources, and upgradeable weapons. Meanwhile, the creators cite horror films of the 1970s to 1990s as inspirations behind the gnarly monster designs.
This newest trailer focuses more on ILL’s story. The formerly-comatose protagonist investigates an Eastern-European fort. A few side characters appear, who seem willing to help the protagonist uncover a mystery. That said, they consistently offer words of caution. Understandable, as I’d want a heads up if creepy creatures roamed around my derelict Eastern-European fort.
The creators of this gleefully gory game certainly have horror credentials as well. The developers have worked on such projects as Until Dawn, IT: Welcome to Derry, V/H/S/Beyond, and Longlegs, to name a few. This shines through in the above trailer in particular. Though it focuses on story, the footage shows off the claustrophobic environment and sinister Aberrations.
In a press release, ILL Game Director Max Verehin spoke on the State of Play announcement:
We are thrilled to finally announce our release window, and we are working tirelessly to deliver on our ambitious vision for players to enjoy. With this new trailer, we’re excited to not only showcase new types of terrifying monstrosities, but also begin introducing you to the game’s intriguing characters.
ILL will arrive in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Currently, you may wishlist the survival horror game for PlayStation here, for Xbox here, or for PC here.
