One of the best games to release in recent years, Elden Ring, is finally making its way onto the Nintendo platform. More specifically, Elden Ring Tarnished Edition, which includes both the original game and its Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, will release for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026.
The title also features brand new content, including two new Starting Classes for players to choose, along with new character armour and the ability to customize Torrent, players’ faithful Spectral Steed. This is a nice bonus for those who choose to pick up the game again or purchase the additional content separately on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
The original Elden Ring received more than 400 “Game of the Year” nominations and sold 30 million units worldwide. Now, I expect that number to only grow with the games impeding release on Switch 2. While I didn’t get the opportunity to review the game myself, I did play both the base game and DLC to completion, and I have to say it was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. So, any opportunity for more people to access the game is only a good thing in my book.
One thing that I find interesting is the timing of this announcement and release. With developer FromSoftware working on an exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 title, The Duskbloods. You have to imagine that this port of Elden Ring was FromSoftware’s way of getting to grips with the hardware itself. So, I’ll be extremely interested to see how it performs and looks on the Nintendo Switch 2.
