Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves is celebrating its first anniversary, and SNK is marking the occasion with a massive Ver. 2.0.1 update. The patch is now available, and it brings a hefty list of additions, including Wolfgang Krauser, a new story mode, Ring Out battles, UI changes, and balance adjustments.
The update is also a sizable download, coming in at around 30 GB, so players may want to clear some space before jumping back into South Town.
Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Ver. 2.0.1 Brings A New Look

After hearing feedback about the game’s UI, SNK has overhauled the main menu with a cleaner setup that splits the game into three main areas:
- Battle Coliseum for modes such as Versus, Ranked Matches, missions, and practice.
- Chronicles for Arcade, Episodes of South Town, and the new Wolves’ Destiny story mode.
- Menu Hub for Gallery, Jukebox, Color Edit, settings, help, and other features.
The Fighter’s Hub has also been redesigned to make player information, battle settings, online profiles, and match records easier to access. Training Mode now has quicker access from the Mode Select screen, and players can use online match settings while practicing.
That last part is one of the better quality-of-life changes here. Being able to train while waiting for a match is something fighting game players always appreciate, especially when there are combos, matchups, and defensive options to work through. Gotta love those chibi designs, too. I know I do.

Ring Out Battles Return In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

SNK has also revealed a new stage that brings back an old favorite from the Fatal Fury series. Second South Central introduces the return of Ring Out Battles, a mechanic longtime fans will remember from Real Bout Fatal Fury.
Just like in the older games, Ring Out Battles are tied to specific stages. Players can break parts of the stage boundary, opening up the chance to knock an opponent out of the arena. Once that happens, the round ends instantly, regardless of how much health the opponent still has.
In the older Real Bout Fatal Fury games, that could lead to some hilarious moments, such as characters getting electrocuted by an exposed transformer or falling off a floor. In City of the Wolves, the Second South Central stage keeps that same energy, with fighters getting knocked into the train area or even onto the roof of a departing train.
Krauser Enters The South Town Chat

Wolfgang Krauser has officially descended onto South Town, and he is not exactly here for a quiet visit. The Emperor of Darkness returns as part of Season 2, bringing his iconic offense, powerful specials, and a few new tricks with him.
Krauser’s arrival also ties into Wolves’ Destiny, a new story mode that takes place after Arcade Mode. This new narrative focuses on Krauser and Kain R. Heinlein as both characters become locked in a shadow war for control of South Town.
The mode is fully voiced in both Japanese and English, fully illustrated, and features branching storylines with different endings based on dialogue choices. That should give players more reason to go through the mode more than once, especially if they want to see how each side of this new conflict plays out.
Krauser also arrives with a new base of operations, Kaiser Hall, a German-style concert hall built for an emperor. Subtle? Not really. Fitting for Krauser? Absolutely.
Battle Changes Arrive In Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves

The Ver. 2.0.1 update also includes several battle changes. Smart Style players can now use the heavy version of certain special moves, which should open up new combo routes and give newer players more tools to work with.
SNK has also made broader battle adjustments across several characters. The official patch notes list changes for 10 fighters, including a number of recent DLC characters. REV meter gain has been adjusted as well, and several character-specific updates have been made to improve balance.
There are also non-battle updates included in the patch. Room Match now supports Training Mode standby, attack data can be shown while spectating, Versus Mode replays can be viewed offline, and PC players now have more controller button icon options.
There are other changes, too. Smart Style can now use Heavy attack forms for some characters. Also, there is throw invincibility for some characters. Rev gives out more meter, too. 10 characters were changed for other updates to balances. Most of them are the recent DLCs. More can be seen on the official website.
