After months of build-up for Avengers: Doomsday, Disney and Marvel Studios have released the first full trailer, or should we say teaser, that not only shows off Doctor Doom, but also the cast of heroes who will ultimately do battle against Victor von Doom in the upcoming movie.
Check out the trailer and then listen to me rant.
As a fan of Marvel Comics and the MCU, despite it disappointing me at times, I’m hyped after watching this trailer. Sure, I still don’t like Robert Downey Jr. being cast as Doom, but when you think about it, the decision could make sense.
Over the last few years, Marvel has turned the MCU into a series of multiversal struggles and even introduced the word “incursion.” Anyone who follows the comics knows that an incursion means that multiple universes collide and you need to fight for your universe or least it gets wiped out. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness brought that threat to the forefront, as did Marvel’s Loki series, and Avengers: Doomsday could introduce a Victor von Doom from another universe whose world is dying or has already been destroyed. He may be angry over what happened or simply believe he is the only one capable of saving everything.
Also, why is Doom imitating a certain Dragon Ball character when he’s taking on Thor? Goku would be proud.
Avengers: Doomsday arrives in theaters on December 18, 2026, with select premium-format tickets going on sale today. And don’t forget that this movie is part of a two-part story, with Avengers: Secret Wars following on December 17, 2027.
