Updated: More Games Confirmed For the Sega Genesis And Megadrive Mini Retro Consoles

By Keith MitchellApril 18, 2019
Sega Genesis Mini Announced

Updated: Sega just sent out an updated list of which games will make it to the Sega Genesis Mini. And get this, there are several games that weren’t even shown yet.

  1. Earthworm Jim
  2. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  3. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  4. World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck
  5. Contra: Hard Corps
  6. Streets of Rage 2
  7. Thunder Force III
  8. Super Fantasy Zone
  9. Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master
  10. Landstalker

Replace the three titles that never received localization are Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, Earthworm Jim, Sonic the Hedgehog 2 and Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master. Sadly the West misses out on M.U.S.H.A (why??)

Original Story:

Earlier today, Famitsu hosted a live stream where they showed off several newly announced titles for the Sega Genesis Mini / Megadrive Mini.  Mind you, these are just titles confirmed for the system, not for any other region other than Japan. I’d imagine Sega will let us know exactly which games we’ll see over in the West.

That said, it’s nice to see some more familiar faces make the cut.

  • Thunder Force III
  • Super Fantasy Zone
  • M.U.S.H.A.
  • World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck
  • Bare Knuckle II/Streets of Rage 2
  • The Hybrid Front
  • Landstalker
  • Contra Hard Corps
  • Dyna Brothers 2: Sega Channel Special
  • Game no Kanzume Otokuyou

Outside of Game no Kanzume Otokuyou, The Hybrid Front and Dyna Brothers 2: Sega Channel Special, which never was localized for the West. Looks like everything else announced will make it to the Sega Genesis Mini. That’s a solid list of announced games.

However, the biggest news is that World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse & Donald Duck made the cut. Which means we still could see other licensed games, including Aladdin, Quackshot, and maybe even Moonwalker. We’ll just have to wait and see.

For those keeping score, we’re getting not only Contra Hard Corps but also Castlevania: Bloodlines, Thunder Force III, Gunstar Heroes and M.U.S.H.A.? Yes, this lineup just keeps getting better each time.

This is the current list of the 20 announced games for the North American Sega Genesis Mini.

  1. Earthworm Jim
  2. Altered Beast
  3. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse
  4. Castlevania: Bloodlines
  5. Comix Zone
  6. Contra: Hard Corps
  7. Dr. Robotnik’s Mean Bean Machine
  8. Ecco the Dolphin
  9. Gunstar Heroes
  10. Landstalker
  11. Shining Force
  12. Shinobi 3: Return of the Ninja Master
  13. Sonic the Hedgehog
  14. Sonic the Hedgehog 2
  15. Space Harrier 2
  16. Streets of Rage 2
  17. Super Fantasy Zone
  18. Thunder Force 3
  19. ToeJam & Earl
  20. World of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck

The Sega Genesis Mini releases in North America on September 19, 2019. It will be priced at $79.99 and comes with the system, 2x three-button controllers and 40 games. Hopefully, this turns out to be the everything Sega promises this will be. I got my pre-order in, do you?
