Did Gearbox Just Release A Borderlands 3 Teaser Trailer?

By Keith MitchellMarch 27, 2019
Borderlands - Mask of Mayhem Teaser

Is this Borderlands 3?

Gearbox had promised that they had a few surprises that they would reveal at PAX East 2019. One of which many were speculating and hoping that it would be Borderlands 3.  A title that had been teased for years, I might add.

Well, today a new trailer was released by the company and while it doesn’t say the game is called Borderlands 3. It definitely is connected to the series, as its called Borderlands Teaser Trailer – Mask of Mayhem. Which very well could be Borderlands 3.

Short of giving us a look at several renders, nothing really is made clear as to what this is. However, at the very end, it does state that Mayhem Is Coming. Three words, that very well could add up to Borderlands 3. But is it?

Well, let’s look at the trailer, as the more I watched it, the more I saw some things that I didn’t see before. For example, Handsome Jack’s mask shows up briefly.

Claptrap also shows up, resting on the shoulder of one of the characters.

Several characters from Borderlands 2, mainly Brick, Mordecai are shown. As is Tiny Tina, but she’s all grown up now.

Looks like Sir Hammerlock is also returning, as is a handful of other vault hunters.

Then there are the vehicles that are everywhere in the trailer, as well as several unknown characters. This trailer is definitely chock full of info and likely more hidden stuff that I haven’t seen just yet.

So what does this all mean? We’ll find out tomorrow during Gearbox Software’s live stream of their panel at PAX East 2019. Taking place tomorrow at 11 AM PDT / 2PM EDT, we’re sure to find out what exactly this game is. I’m hoping this is Borderlands 3, but as Gearbox said, they’ll have multiple announcements. It very well could be something else in the Borderlands universe – maybe a Battle Royale game?

Either way, tomorrow is when we’ll find out what exactly Gearbox Software has in store. Please be Borderlands 3.
