CD Projekt Red is not finished with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt just yet. Despite the game being more than a decade old, Geralt of Rivia is returning for another adventure in a brand-new expansion called Songs of the Past. Originally revealed on May 27, 2026, Songs of the Past is currently in development for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with the expansion expected to launch sometime in 2027.
CD Projekt Red has now confirmed that the expansion will appear during Gamescom Opening Night Live on August 25. As shown in the promotional image, the showcase is set for 11 a.m. PT, 2 p.m. ET, and 8 p.m. CEST.
While the studio has not revealed exactly what Geralt will be facing in this latest adventure, the newly released artwork certainly gives off a dark and ominous tone. Geralt is shown standing in front of a massive, twisted creature that appears to be made of roots, branches, and something far more sinister. It does not tell us much about the story, but it does suggest that this new journey will not be a quiet one. And what’s with the sword? It must have some significance if Geralt is holding the way he is.
Songs of the Past is being co-developed by CD Projekt Red and Fool’s Theory, the studio known for The Thaumaturge. The two studios are also working together on the remake of the original The Witcher, making this an interesting collaboration for fans of the series.
It remains to be seen if the Gamescom appearance will include a full trailer, gameplay footage, or just another tease. Either way, this marks a surprising return for The Witcher 3, especially considering its last major expansion, Blood and Wine, released back in 2016.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past is set to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
