ASUS and Xbox have not been sitting around when it comes to the handheld PC gaming device wars. Apparently, both companies have been listening to fans of the already available ROG Xbox Ally X, and they have now revealed a new device called the ROG Xbox Ally X20, which was featured at Computex 2026. This a limited-edition handheld is expected to be released in the near future, and I am already drooling at the thought of it.
There is currently no price for the device. However, it will also come bundled with the ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20, which by itself is priced at $850. With that in mind, it is safe to say that the new ROG Xbox Ally X20 is going to be extremely pricey. We’re talking easily over $2000 price. I wish it wasn’t a bundle, but many Asus and Xbox will rethink that when it’s closer to release the device.
The device will feature the same CPU and GPU setup as the ROG Xbox Ally X, which means the AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme, complete with its NPU, will still be included. It also retains the same overall shell, although it now features black and gold accents with a black translucent look that lets you see some of the interior.
However, that is where the old stops and the new starts. Unlike the original ROG Xbox Ally X, the Ally X20 will feature TMR joysticks, a transforming D-pad similar to the Xbox 360 Gears of War controller’s D-pad, and improved face buttons for X, Y, A, and B.
What fans of the ROG Ally X and ROG Xbox Ally X will likely appreciate even more is the slightly larger screen. Coming in at 7.4 inches, which is the same size as the Steam Deck OLED, this new display features a 1920 x 1080 resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, OLED, Dolby Vision HDR, FreeSync Premium Pro, 100% DCI-P3 coverage, and up to 1400 nits of HDR brightness. That is a huge jump over the regular ROG Xbox Ally X’s 7-inch IPS screen.
We likely will not see this available until after the device makes another appearance, possibly during CES 2027. We will be attending, and we will make sure to get some hands-on time with the device if it is there.
