Path of Exile 2 Guide: How to Refund your Passive Skill points

By Keith MitchellDecember 6, 2024

As I mentioned in prior coverage of Path of Exile 2, one of the differences includes being able to respec your character/s passive abilities, unlike how it was in the first Path of Exile title. This time around, Grinding Gear Games has made the task a bit more accessible by allowing people to change the passives by using gold, a new currency. This means you won’t need to complete the game or get your hands on an Orb of Regret to refund your passive points.

It’s much easier now to refund passives, so players can play around with different builds, as long as they have some gold to spend. In this guide, we’ll show you how to refund passives in Path of Exile 2.

How To Refund Your Passives Points

First things first, you will not be able to refund your passive points until at least at least two hours into the game, depending on how well you do. I won’t say what will happen as it’s part of the progression of the game. Once you gain access to a specific character known as the Hooded One, he will provide the option to refund passives, in addition to providing identifying items for free.

Each time you refund a passive, it will cost you 247 gold for each passive point you refund, and there’s no limit to how many you can refund. As long as you have the gold, you can refund. However, can only refund nodes at the end of your unlock branches — you won’t be able to refund a skill that is connecting two other skills together, without refunding those as well.

Now it is possible to take your character in a completely new direction — something that wasn’t possible in Path of Exile without much headache. While the passive skill tree is massive, a vast amount of gold can defeat it, so you better start saving up.
