Monster Hunter Wilds: Putting the Palico into Standby Mode

By Keith MitchellFebruary 27, 2025
Monster Hunter Wilds - Seeya Palico

Ah yes, the Palico—your lovable, cat-like combat companion and loyal best friend—has returned in Monster Hunter Wilds. However, just like in previous entries, I feel that it can make the adventure a bit too easy. The Palico provides healing, often right when you need it, and can pull a monster’s aggro, giving you a moment to heal or take other actions.

Some players might find that the Palico makes the game a little too easy, but thankfully, there’s an option to disable it if you prefer to leave your adorable kitty at home.

How to Disable the Palico

You can easily disable the Palico in Monster Hunter Wilds by setting it to “Standby.” To do this, enter your tent at a main campsite or a pop-up campsite.

Once inside, go to the Palico Menu and select “Palico Deployment Status.” You’ll have two options: Deploy and Standby. Select Standby to disable your Palico.

Once this is done, you’ll be notified that the Palico is now on Standby.

Once this is done, you’ll be notified that the Palico is now on Standby. In Standby mode, the Palico will no longer assist you during quests. However, this doesn’t affect your roaming in the open world, as the Palico will still follow you regardless. So, if you’re looking for a bit more challenge in Monster Hunter Wilds, leaving your buddy behind in combat is one way to spice things up.

You can check out our other Monster Hunter Wilds guide and give our Monster Hunter Wilds review a read.
