The wait is over, Wolverine has sharpened his claws in a thrilling new combat focused trailer at PlayStation’s State of Play. While it reminded me somewhat of older Wolverine games like X-Men Origins Wolverine in its basics. Just like Insomniac Games‘ Spider-Man titles, there appears to be a level of depth and enemy variety that should keep Marvel’s Wolverine feeling fresh throughout.
If you don’t believe me, take a look at the trailer for yourself:
It’s so visceral that some players might find it hard to watch. However, if you’re asking me this is exactly how combat in a Wolverine game should look. I just hope it has the weight of impact to back it up. Logan shouldn’t feel floaty like Spider-Man but he also shouldn’t turn like a tank. From the eye test alone, the pace of combat looks right but looking right and feeling correct are different things entirely. I can’t wait to get hands-on and see just how the combat and movement feels for myself.
Alongside the trailer, more details about the game were revealed in a PlayStation Blog post. In this post, Insomniac confirmed that Marvel’s Wolverine will launch with a comprehensive list of accessibility options. Keeping up their impressive track record of having some of the most accessible AAA titles available to date. While this is great news for players with additional needs, I do hope they spotlight these options more extensively before launch.
In end, today’s showing of Marvel’s Wolverine was exactly what I expected to see and yet it still left me even more excited to play the game than I was before. Insomniac Games has proven that they understand Marvel properties and treat them with great care and respect, something that they seem to be continuing with Marvel’s Wolverine.
Marvel’s Wolverine is releasing on September 15, 2026 for PS5 and is available to pre-order right. Unfortunately, if you were waiting and hoping for a collector’s edition just like I was then you are out of luck.
