Elgato’s Latest Capture Device the HD60 X Supports VRR Passthrough

Elgato has revealed its latest capture device, the HD60 X, and of course, is targeting this for owners of the next-generation of gaming consoles. This means you, Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 owners.

The HD60 X is an upgrade over Elgato’s current external capture devices, the HD 60 and HD60 S+. The rear of the device is an HDMI input and output and one USB-C connection. While a power LED and HD60 X logo are placed at the front.

Unlike the HD60 S+, the HD60 X will not only capture footage at 1080p60 FPS, but also at 1080p60 FPS with HDR, 1080p120, 1440p60, and 4K30 FPS. It also allows gamers to continue to play their favorite games at the highest possible quality, thanks to 4K60 HDR and VRR passthrough support.

Now, correct me if I’m wrong, but I do believe this would be the first capture device to support VRR passthrough. This is great news as the Xbox Series X|S already supports the technology, while PlayStation plans to offer VRR support for the PlayStation 5 in the future.

The HD60 X also features less latency than the HD60 S+ and better HDR to DR tonemapping. The HD60 retails for $199.99, the same price as the Elgato HD60 S, and is already being sold at Best Buy.

Sadly, while still portable, the HD60 X does not feature the ability to record without a laptop, PC, or Mac. If that’s a feature you must have, you’ll have to look at the Elgato 4K60 S+. It’s quite a bit more expensive, but it works like a champ when you need a self-contained portable capture device.
