Elgato Announes the HD60 S; USB 3 Capture Device Ups the Ante

By Keith MitchellApril 5, 2016

Last week I caught wind of a new capture device coming from Elgato. You can see the original post here. However it looks like they’ve let the cat out of the bag and announced the new device officially. Introducing the Elgato HD60 S; an updated capture device that utilizes USB 3.0 Type -C. Unlike the HD60 which was stuck using USB 2, the HD60 S improves on the HD60 in every way. More importantly, like the HD60 Pro, the HD60 S will provide gamers and streamers with a super low latency meaning that you’ll be able to broadcast to Twitch, Youtube or where ever you stream to even faster.

What’s more is that console streamers won’t have to deal with delayed output anymore, as well as finally being able to use web overlays and you’ll be able to play directly from your computer instead of monitoring two different monitors or tv’s. That’s huge!

The Elgato HD60 S is priced at $179.95 and is available for pre-order now here. Units won’t ship until April 16, 2016 however. Even still for the same price as a HD60 Pro, I’m definitely going to be jumping on this. However keep in mind that in order to use the HD60 S, you will need a USB 3.0 connector on your motherboard. Otherwise you’ll need to invest in either a new motherboard or a USB 3.0 add-on card.
