This past weekend, we saw many trailers for exciting games as part of the main Summer Game Fest showcase. But indie games need love too. After Friday’s showcase, Summer Game Fest also debuted the Day of the Devs showcase immediately following. And as someone who always loves a spooky little game, I was reeled in towards DREADMOOR, a post-apocalyptic fishing adventure.
Developed by Dream Dock Games and published by Digital Vortex Entertainment, DREADMOOR is set on an old boat in a plague-infested bayou. When the apocalypse comes, what else is there to do but fish? A few things, actually. The game tasks you with scavenging for supplies, crafting gear, and avoiding fish that prove too big to fry.
You can check out the entire Day of the Devs presentation below. DREADMOOR gets its segment around the 13:20 mark.
While the boat is the main form of navigating in DREADMOOR, players can also disembark to explore the bayou by foot. The world has some strange survivors with lore to share and quests to give. Players can also sell their catches to the local above-water denizens, or choose to dissect them (the fish, not the people…) to fashion even better bait – for even rarer fish.
Rather than catching fish with a mini-game, DREADMOOR promises a more in-depth fishing experience. Players will have to check the water, cast the line, and see what bites… hopefully not too hard. Each creature requires certain bait and the right rod for you to catch it.
In the Day of the Devs trailer, Dream Dock CEO Rostislav Fedorov discusses some more of this game’s fishy business.
“We’re honored to be part of this summer’s Day of the Devs showcase,” Fedorov shared in a press release. “In addition to being game developers, we’re all huge fishermen at Dream Dock, and we’re hoping to share that passion – in our own twisted way – with DREADMOOR.”
DREADMOOR is not to be confused with DREDGE, another fishing game with an all-caps title. True, both are creepy fishing games. But DREADMOOR is a first-person survival game set in the bayou while DREDGE is a third-person, top-down game set on a boat in an archipelago. There’s room for more than one spooky fishing game in these waters, after all.
DREADMOOR will sail onto PC later this year. In the meantime, you can wishlist the eerie fishing title here on Steam.
