You may have missed it, but yesterday EA revealed the gameplay trailer for its latest football/soccer title EA SPORTS FC 27. Following the last few days of reveals which saw both the standard edition and ultimate edition covers revealed, both featuring French sensation Kylian Mbappé.
It was only a matter of time before we got a glimpse of the game itself, and here it is:
Of course, we only got a few short snippets of gameplay in this reveal trailer but it was packed full of information. The first thing I noticed was The Grounds, a brand-new social hub experience that appears to encapsulate modes such as Volta and Rush from previous titles into a more seamless social experience. If you have played any NBA 2K titles in the last few years, then EA FC is definitely taking inspiration from The City for this new mode.
Another thing that stood out to me as a long-time career mode player, and content watcher was the promise of a rebuilt transfer system. This is something the mode has needed for years, but how does it all work? We’ll have to wait to find out, but hopefully not too long.
We also saw a number of gameplay tweaks but the one that immediately got my interest was the two phases corners. Where you set the power and trajectory of the delivery, and then control the player in the box as the ball comes in. I expect this to be marketed as a completely new feature and I understand why, but long time players like myself will remember a similar system on EA’s football games in the early 2000s. So, I for one am glad to see something akin to that return this year.
The big new feature for Ultimate Team this year appears to be The All-New Football Ultimate Team Gallery. What exactly is it? While here’s EA’s description:
The All-New Football Ultimate Team Gallery: Curate and immortalize your dream club within the FUT™ Gallery and grade complete Sets of past and present Player Items across clubs, leagues, nations, and FUT™ campaigns to increase your Gallery Level, earning rewards and building your Club’s identity throughout the new football season.
All of the above is pretty standard news and as you’d expected from an initial reveal trailer for an EA FC game.
What took many by surprise was the news that accompanied this reveal trailer. That being the news of a second even more premium edition of the game this year, it’s called the FC 27 Ultimate Plus Edition and it features England’s star man Jude Bellingham join his Real Madrid teammate Kylian Mbappé on the cover.
