33 Immortals Early Access Preview (XSX) – A Roguelike Set to Take Gaming by Storm

33 Immortals Early Access Preview Header

33 Immortals is a visually stunning and uniquely designed action-RPG that offers an exciting cooperative experience, though it’s not without its flaws. Developed by Thunder Lotus Games, and available on Xbox Game Pass Preview and the Epic Games Store for PC, this game thrusts players into an expansive world where they can team up with others to tackle intense, dungeon-crawling challenges. The game centres around 33 powerful immortals who are controlled by players as they fight against endless hordes of enemies, each with their own unique abilities and strengths.

Game Name: 33 Immortals
Platform(s): Xbox Series X|S (Previewed), PC (Epic Games Store)
Publisher(s): Thunder Lotus Games
Developer(s): Thunder Lotus Games
Release Date: March 18th, 2025

A Rogue-like Revolution with 33-Player Co-Op Mayhem

What makes 33 Immortals stand out is its deep focus on cooperative gameplay. The game encourages teamwork and strategy, allowing players to combine different immortals’ abilities to create devastating combos. The art direction is breathtaking, with a dark and moody aesthetic that perfectly complements the high-stakes action. The environments are beautifully detailed, with intricate dungeons and monster designs that truly immerse players in the game’s universe.

What’s also interesting is how 33 Immortals handles the Rogue-like genre, making it massively multiplayer. With other games of this genre, such as Dead Cells, Brotato, and Slay the Spire, the experience is primarily solo. Other games, such as Vampire Survivors, do have a multiplayer component but are usually restricted to a maximum of four players. It’s here that 33 Immortals shines, being true to its name and adding up to 33 players in a game at once.

That’s right, you, along with 32 other people in the same game with the same goal, is a breath of fresh air. At the time of this early access review, there are only four weapons available in the game: Dagger, Sword, Bow, and Staff. While the game is still in its early access phase, I would like to see a couple more added. Another bow type, like a crossbow, would be cool. Also, maybe a short sword of some kind, as the current options only include a large berserker-style sword or daggers.

The Good & The Bad

While the combat is enjoyable and satisfying, it can sometimes feel repetitive, especially during extended play sessions. The large roster of immortals offers variety, but it can also be overwhelming for new players to manage all the abilities and tactics effectively. The progression system is solid, offering a sense of growth and empowerment, though it could benefit from more variety in rewards to keep players engaged longer.

With lots of things going on with no explanation, sometimes it can become overwhelming. But like most games of this trope, it’s the belief that you’ll learn as you play and eventually become knowledge that helps you progress. During my time with the game I did notice that there is the occasional difficulty spike, which can feel punishing, especially when playing solo. Teaming up with others alleviates this, but it can be frustrating for those who prefer single-player experiences.

Surviving to ascend

Winning a run, or Ascending as it’s called, for the first time is so cool and is greatly satisfying if you’re on a solo run. teaming with randoms all for one goal. Then it happens: the actual Final Boss (of this floor). At the time of this review, there are three worlds: Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso. All with a new layout, new monsters & fewer players, which ultimately make the game harder. In my experience, just going to the final boss of the first floor with less than 33 players wasn’t enough sometimes. Not to mention that players really should be venturing to other worlds until you have had a chance to upgrade your weapons and feat level.

Conclusion

Overall, 33 Immortals is a great game that shines in its cooperative multiplayer mode, but it could use some fine-tuning in difficulty and progression to be truly exceptional. Adding a way to form a group with random players could help ensure you never feel alone unless you choose to play solo. Still, it’s an engaging experience that fans of the genre will appreciate.

I’ll be keeping a close eye on future updates, particularly new weapons and abilities. So, what’s next? Looking at the roadmap, it seems the developers have a clear path ahead, filled with fixes, additions, and even a new world.

Summary

My time playing this game has been nothing but fast paced fun. A couple runs solo and a couple with friends is all i need to know that with people you know this game gets elevated to a place that could rival some of the other online games at this moment in time. I look forward to what Thunder Lotus Games have in store for this game.
