Mortal Kombat 1: Conan Slashes In on January 21

By Kevin KellyJanuary 17, 2025
Mortal Kombat 1, Conan The Barbarian

Just when you thought that we were not going to get more Arnold Schwarzenegger representation in a fighting game, Mortal Kombat 1 and Netherrealm Studios decided to go the distance. Conan will be the Governator’s new entry into the battle for Earthrealm on January 21st. This Conan is based on the Governator’s 1982 movie – Conan The Barbarian. Each move, pose, and even lines, are from that run. In the trailer, Conan is joined by Classic Sonya Blade cameo to… well, konquer.

As stated before, Conan does give off the Tusk’s feel from Killer Instinct with his slashes and the like. The Governator even has a fire-based projectile and armor-based moves to negate attacks. The chest-out armor move can stop jumpers in their tracks, bringing them back to Earth. Conan’s normals are close range. Conan even has a launcher to deal more damage with juggles. He has a forward-moving run that negates projectiles, also. It can also allow other options to be used for additional moves.

There is a part where Conan grabs his Sub-Zero cameo and throws him at his opponent. This is an actual move of Conan’s as he is able to throw ANY cameo at his foe. In his finisher, Conan brings back the cauldron to dump his enemy in until the acid consumes them. The signature sword twirl of his is a damage move. If you thought that Gill’s Ressurection was a cheat move, Conan has a similar mechanic that interrupts the last blow inorder to bring him back to life. While the tech doesn’t restore his whole bar, it does give the warrior a fighting chance with at least a small amount of health.  It’s a bit more honest with him than Gill. Conan has a reflector move to throw projectiles back at opponents.

While the trailer doesn’t specifically give much in terms of a real time fight, content creator Gamelution has already brought a Reiko vs Conan match to youtube. The bull of the game does do some cool stuff in style.

Conan appears on January 21st. While we have seen renders of Terminator’s T-800, his due date is still TBA. He is a part of the Khaos Reigns expansion. As to if he’ll be playable for Frosty Faustings this month to count as part of the Pro Kompetition 2025 run, that’s also to be determined.
