The DK Rap Gets “Modern Remix” Thanks To Substantial and Grant Kirkhope!

Old School or New School? Your Call.

DK Rap

There are certain parts of gaming history that are “sacred,” and there are part that are debated endlessly because people can’t decide if it’s good or not. In the case of Donkey Kong 64, the game itself is beloved overall, but what gets fans talking about whether they loved the DK Rap that opened the game. You either really like it, or you think it’s dumb. Grant Kirkhope was the man who made the track, and even he has some “mixed feelings” on it. I, on the other hand, loved the track, and I can still sing it to this day.

Fast forward to now, and Grant Kirkhope decided that the DK Rap needed a true “rap feel” to it. So, he worked with rapper Substantial to do an updated/remixed version of it to make it feel like a modern rap song. Which version of the track is better? You’ll need to listen to it below to form your opinion!
