PS5 Disc Drive Sells Like Hotcakes as Scalpers Take Advantage

PS5 Disc Drive Sells Like Hotcakes as Scalpers Take Advantage

As you probably already know, the PS5 Pro does not include an optical drive to read Blu-rays, which means you need to buy the disc drive separately to play physical titles.

Well, now that we are very close to the console’s launch, the drive is sold out at many stores, including Amazon and the official PlayStation store, and as usual, scalpers are taking advantage of this.

In fact, just take a look at eBay to find listings with prices much higher than the official retail price of $79.99. For example, among the listings published by some sellers, we find prices that start from $110 up to $260, as seen in the image below — a truly illogical figure.

In the United Kingdom, a listing even reached a staggering £400. Additionally, the disk drive has been climbing Amazon’s sales rankings since the PS5 Pro announcement, highlighting the scalpers’ simple yet effective strategy: take advantage of the shortage to convince eager buyers to pay well above the official price, just to have it in time for the PS5 Pro launch rather than waiting for restocks in the coming weeks

PS5 Pro will be available in stores starting November 7th at $699.
