Gundam Evolution and What You Need to Know Ahead of Tomorrow’s Launch

Gundam Evolution, Bandai Namco’s upcoming team-based first-person shooter, based in the universe of Gundam, will finally be released in North America on September 21st, 2022, but only for PC.  That’s just one more day, and as a Gundam fan, I can’t wait to jump in.

I’ve already played in several of the beta’s, and despite having some issues, I felt that the game was fun and exciting, and ever since then, I’ve been waiting to play it again.

Seeing how the game is launching tomorrow, I’ve put together a guide that will hopefully help all my fellow Newtypes that are looking forward to playing the game.

What is Gundam Evolution?

Gundam Evolution is a Free-to-Play team-based Hero first-person shooter featuring 6v6 PvP combat with playable mobile suits from across the Gundam multiverse. If you thought of Overwatch but with Gundams, you’d be right. The game will offer three objective-based modes: Point Capture, Domination, and Destruction. The title presents a unique set of challenges requiring teams to craft and execute formidable offensive and defensive strategies to emerge victorious.

While Gundam Evolution is a Free-to-Play game; however, it will have microtransactions called EVO coins that can be purchased with real money. This will allow you to acquire several things, including skins, MVP scenes, stamps, emotes, player icons, ornaments, and more.

There’s also the Gundam Evolution DX Edition, a bundle that includes five unlockable suits that would normally need to be unlocked by playing the game. As well as several skills and an ornament. This has been announced for the Japanese region, priced at 4,180 Evo Coins. We don’t know how much this will be priced when the game arrives in North America. This has not shown up on the North American Steam store page as of yet.

While we’re at it, the game is Free-to-Play, not Play-to-Win. There aren’t any super duper Gundams or other Mobile Suits you can purchase and kick everyone’s ass.

While the game is being released tomorrow for PC, whiles consoles will be able to start playing on November 30th, 2022. This includes the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. As for you PC gamers, head over to Steam and download the game now. That is unless you want to wait for everyone else to start downloading it tomorrow. The file size for Gundam Evolution is 18GB. Unless you have a fast internet connection, you may want to start downloading the game today.

In the first Season of Gundam Evolution, three new suits are being added to the already large roster. These include the Zaku II Melee loadout, Mahiroo, and Unicorn Gundam.

Here’s every Gundam and Mobile Suit that will be available in the first season.

  • RMS-108 Marasai – unlockable
  • GN-001 Gundam Exia – unlockable
  • RGM-79 GM
  • RX-75 Guntank
  • Turn A Gundam
  • MS-09B Dom
  • NRX-044 Asshimar
  • RGM-79SP GM Sniper II
  • MSA-005 Methuss
  • MSN-04 Sazabi
  • ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos
  • MS-06 Zaku II
  • RX-80PR Pale Rider
  • Gundam RX-78
  • Zaku II Melee loadout – unlockable
  • Mahiroo – unlockable
  • Unicorn Gundam – unlockable

The Marasai, Gundam Exia, Zaku II Melee loadout, Mahiroo, and Unicorn Gundam must be unlocked via EVO coins or Captial Points. EVO coins are currency and are basically microtransactions, while Captial points are earned in-game.

In addition to the maps included in the beta, four new maps, Wilderness Mining Field, Harbor City, Guiana Highlands, and Security Terminal City, will be included when the first season starts.

Gundam Evolution will also have multiple seasons, each lasting two months, while each new season will add new Gundams and Mobile Suits. The game will also include season passes, battle passes, and plenty of customization options.

Should you play Gundam Evolution

Normally, I’m not one to tell people what they should or shouldn’t play. That said, If you like first-person shooters and you also enjoy Gundam, I’d say give it a try. It’s definitely a fun game, but it’s also a game that requires teamwork. So if you like being the lone wolf, the person who wants to rank up kills and not help their team… you may want to rethink that strategy.

The time I’ve played the game, teamwork is a must, especially with the Point Capture and Domination modes. You can easily find yourself surrounded by the enemy in either of those modes, and that’s not good for you, your team, or your morale.

Trust me, getting defeated over and over is no fun.

But if you’re all about teamwork and this sound like a game you’ll enjoy, then check it out. It’s free, after all. What do you have to lose?

Besides, my pal Domon Kasshu thinks you should try it out.

Domon Kasshu thumbs up

Am I excited about this game?

Hell yeah, I am. I’ve been a fan of the series Gundam ever since the first anime aired. I didn’t jump on when Toonami started airing Gundam Wing, but those were glorious times. Gundam is life! At least to me, it is. I’ve been complaining that there needed to be more Gundam games for years.

Thankfully, for the past few years, Bandai Namco has stepped it up, and we’ve received a number of newer Gundam games. SD Gundam G Generation Genesis,  Gundam Versus, Mobile Suit Gundam: Battle Operation 2, Gundam Breaker, Gundam Extreme Versus Maxiboost ON, and more recently, SD Gundam Battle Alliance. Now we’re getting Gundam Evolution… I’m in Gundam Heaven. We’re also getting a new Gundam anime, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch From Mercury. Maybe you’ve heard of it?

Remember, September 21st, 2022, for the PC, then November 30th, 2022, for the PlayStation and Xbox platforms. Maybe I’ll see you online?
