Inscryption is Coming to PlayStation

By Andrew AgressJuly 9, 2022
Inscryption Game

After coming out of the shadows last year for PC, Inscryption will arrive on PlayStation sometime in the near future. The indie horror / roguelike / card game will come to both PS4 and PS5, according to the PlayStation Blog. Publisher Devolver Digital has yet to announce a release date. Folks have wondered when the surprise hit of 2021 would come to consoles, as it seemed like only a matter of time. Last year, the game received two nominations at The Game Awards for both Best Indie and Best Strategy.

Inscryption isn’t a typically deck-building game, as it starts out with playing a card game, but immediately becomes clear that something else is afoot. The card game occurs inside a larger game of being trapped in a dark cabin. It offers a clever blending of genres, but I won’t say too much, as developer Daniel Mullins also encourages that players go into Inscryption knowing as little as possible:

For those of you who may be unfamiliar, Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that’s part deck-building roguelike, part escape-room puzzler and part psychological horror. As video game genres go, it’s a pretty potent concoction. What starts out as a devilish deck-builder soon becomes something altogether different, but I’ll leave you to discover its darkest secrets for yourself.

The move to PlayStation won’t be the first port for the indie title, as it recently arrived on Mac this past June. However, the PlayStation version will have exclusive Haptic feedback features. These consist of audio from the card game coming out of the controller speakers as well as atmospheric lighting coming from the back of the controller.

The last couple years have been good for inventive indie horror games from small teams, with Doki Doki Literature Club Plus and Fobia – St Dinfnas Hotel making it onto consoles. Hopefully we don’t have too much longer to wait before Inscryption joins them.

Andrew comes from the majestic land of New Jersey (the part that doesn't smell). A big fan of sketch comedy, he writes and performs it whenever possible. He gets his powers from listening to indie folk music and drinking aloe water.
