Pokemon Has Had A HUGE Year On Nintendo Switch and Beyond

By Todd BlackMay 10, 2022
Pokemon Legends Arceus

Many of you likely know and accept that Pokemon is one of the best-selling franchises that Nintendo has by a large margin, right? But it sometimes needs to be stated just HOW MUCH of an impact it actually has, because it might just blow your mind how much they sell. For example, within the last financial year, the Pokemon franchise has apparently sold around 35 million software units between all of its titles that are on Switch.

Want a breakdown of that? Well, Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Pokémon Shining Pearl has sold 14.65 million units since their release last November. And that makes them the best-selling remakes of the entire franchise. Then, there’s Legends Arceus, which has sold 12.64 million units since its release in January until the end of March. That’s incredible given that this was a “risky game” when it was announced and after its launch it got some “scathing reviews” about things like its graphics. But apparently, gamers loved it enough to buy it in droves.

Other titles like Sword and Shield, Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee and New Pokemon Snap make up the rest of the numbers. Further showcasing just how incredibly this franchise has done in the last financial year. And don’t forget, Scarlet and Violet are scheduled to arrive this year, further pushing how far they’ll moving units.
