The premise of Girlfriend, Girlfriend (Kanojo mo Kanojo) sounded nice on paper. Guy dates his childhood friend after his love went unrequited for years only to get confessed to by a super-cute girl. He has a choice to make but he wonders if it’s possible to date two girls at once. Sounds like a pretty good setup for some nice drama, some emotional moments, and the alluring possibility for some good NTR.

First Episode Synopsis
Naoya is in class with his new girlfriend Saki. As Saki is about to head off to her club, Naoya professes his love for her in front of everyone… despite the fact that they are already going out. He claims to be head over heels for her and that he wants to cherish her. He’s saying a ton of really cheesy stuff as loud as possible which irks Saki to no end… until she caves and goes along with it.
Saki heads to her club. Naoya heads to the roof to kill time. There, a girl named Nagisa appears and confesses her love for him. She says that she has worked for the past three months to get herself in shape and even taught herself how to cook all for this moment. She’s so cute that Naoya can’t resist but he tells her that he already has a girlfriend… but then asks if she wouldn’t mind going to Saki and asking her permission for him to date the both of them.
As you can imagine… it didn’t go over well but after begging and pleading and some puppy dog eyes from Nagisa, Saki eventually caves and agrees to let Naoya date the two of them.
I don’t know what happens after that because the episode ended up in my Recycle Bin after that.
Worth Watching?
NO – Here I thought we would get an interesting show about a guy trying to juggle two girlfriends all while keeping it a secret only for them to find out and then a plot twist happens where a threesome occurs. Instead, we get one of the dumbest main characters walking God’s green Earth blatantly asking his girlfriend to date someone else.
Add in over-the-top yelling and shouting, a poorly executed premise, and stupid lines that make you wonder “who the hell wrote this crap?” and you have a recipe for one of the worst anime this year.
It’s very rare that I drop an anime on episode one. Even rarer that I don’t even finish the first episode but this one just pushed all of the wrong buttons at once. It wasn’t funny. It wasn’t entertaining. It didn’t hook me in the least bit.
If this is your kind of thing, go nuts; however, I won’t be wasting my time on this show.
