‘Stranger Things 4’ Teaser is Cryptic and Creepy, No Date Yet

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMay 6, 2021

Netflix, why must you tease us so? They dropped a new teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Stranger Things 4 and well, it doesn’t exactly provide us with a lot of answers…or does it?

We see a room full of psychic children doing a bunch of psychic things, like moving cars around a rainbow and, presumably, moving PLINKO tokens into desired spots. We get a few cryptic images, like a Magic 8 Ball that says “Signs Point to Yes”, a red building made of blocks, kids playing chess with a weird animal set, and the PLINKO game covering the numbers 4, 7, and 8. Dr. Martin Brenner then enters the room and greets the kids, all who call him Papa. The camera spins around to a hallway with rooms with different numbers on it, before zooming in on 11 and we hear Brenner as “Eleven, are you listening?” A quick shot of Eleven’s eyes, and then cut to black.

There is, potentially, a lot to unpack here. The game covering 4, 7, and 8 could be in reference to dead or escaped. We already know 8 is Kali, Eleven’s sister who we met in Stranger Things 2. Could this mean we’ll meet 4 and 7 as well? Does Brenner’s reappearance also mean he’s not really dead (be he in hiding or just trapped in the Upside Down) and will be hunting Eleven down? And during the pan over down the hall, we see a door next to 11, so that mean El isn’t the last of the experiments in the Hawkins lab? Lots of questions, few answers.

The description of the video read 002/004, whereas the previous teaser that points to the return of Hopper was labeled 001/004. That means we’re getting two more of these, and honestly, I hope we don’t have to wait another year to get one.

No word yet as to when Stranger Things 4 is set to premiere on Netflix.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
