‘Hocus Pocus 2’ Heads to Disney+ with Original Sanderson Sisters in Tow

By Sara Roncero-MenendezMay 20, 2021

When Hocus Pocus 2 was first announced, the biggest question was if Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, who played the Sanderson Sisters, would be back. At first, it seemed dubious, but all hail that Disney magic, because they pulled that particular rabbit out of a hat today with an announcement from Midler herself:

That’s right, all three ladies will be back in time for Halloween 2022 to make magic and mischief in Hocus Pocus 2. The sequel will focus on three young women who accidentally summon the Sandersons to Salem once again, and must prevent them from eating children. How is that going to happen when they blew up at the end of the first movie? Don’t worry about that, I’m sure they’ll figure something out.

While some might wonder why we’re getting a sequel so many years later, for others the timing is just right. “Now more than ever, people need to laugh. We should be laughing every day, and there is so much fun to be had with these three unbelievable women playing delicious characters from such a beloved film,” director Anne Fletcher said in a statement. “I am so grateful to be able to play a part in bringing these witches back to life, and to be working with my friends at Disney again makes it all the more special. This is a movie for everyone, from the fans who grew up with the first film to the next generation of viewers, and I can’t wait to get started.”

Hocus Pocus 2 will premiere on Disney+ in Fall 2022.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
