Actor Christoper Plummer Dies at Age 91

By Sara Roncero-MenendezFebruary 5, 2021

Veteran actor and Hollywood legend Christopher Plummer has passed away at the age of 91. The cause of death, according to his wife Elaine Taylor Plummer, was an accidental fall.

Plummer is often best known for his role as Captain Von Trapp, alongside Julie Andrews, in The Sound of Music, but he’s had numerous roles in some of the most beloved movies. He played parts both big and small in films like Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, Dragnet, A Beautiful Mind, The Man Who Would Be King, Dolores Claiborne, 12 Monkeys, National Treasure, Up, and Knives Out. He was also in many TV shows and stage plays and musicals. Plummer won countless awards, including an Academy Award for his performance in Beginners, two Primetime Emmy Awards, two Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award, a Screen Actors Guild Award, and a British Academy Film Award.

Lou Pitt, his longtime friend and manager of 46 years, told Deadline, “Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self-deprecating humor and the music of words. He was a national treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots. Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.”

Plummer is survived by his wife Elaine Taylor Plummer and his daughter Amanda Plummer.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
