SDCC 2020: HBO Premieres Trailers for ‘Lovecraft Country’ and ‘His Dark Materials’ Season 2

By Sara Roncero-MenendezJuly 25, 2020

Who doesn’t love some good literary adaptations? I know I do. And HBO is giving us two of them, premiering the trailers during the big San Diego Comic-Con weekend. The first is the second season of the acclaimed fantasy series, His Dark Materials, based on the Philip Pullman series. The show continues to follow the adventures of Lyra, who travels to a strange new world and must help figure out what is happening to a group of kidnapped children.

His Dark Materials Season 2 premieres on both HBO and BBC 1 in Fall 2020.

The second is the first full trailer for Lovecraft Country, the horror series executive produced by Jordan Peele, based off the book by Matt Ruff. In it, we see our main characters coming to terms with both eldritch horrors and the everyday violence of racism in Jim Crow-era America.

Lovecraft Country premieres on HBO on August 16, 2020.

A reporter by trade, Sara is a lover of horror, sci-fi, and all things pop culture. From indies to classics to even the strangest schlock, all movies and TV shows are fair game. She believes Batman is the most fascinating superhero, and that Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises ever made (as long as you don't count the movies). Fun Fact: The only movie Sara will not rewatch is The Room -- once was more than enough.
