Can you believe Grand Theft Auto V Sold has over 130 million copies?

That’s a lot of games sold

Rockstar Games has confirmed what many of us have already known, which is that Grand Theft Auto V has sold a lot of copies. What we didn’t know is that as of yesterday, the title has managed to sell over 130,00,000 units sold since it’s release.

This number doesn’t take into account the copies of the game that was given away for free. Like the recent Grand Theft Auto V free game giveaway from the Epic Game Store or the copies from Rockstar Games when you pre-ordered Red Dead Redemption 2 for PC. Since this number is units sold, not given away or played on services such as Xbox Game Pass.

What this does mean is that with this update, Grand Theft Auto V is now the 3rd All-Time sold game of all time. Trailing behind Minecraft which is the 2nd and Tetris, which remains undefeated at 170 million copies sold. Seeing how GTAV has been sale for so long, and that we still don’t know if a sixth chapter of the series is under development, you have to wonder if this is Rockstar’s plan all along.

For now I don’t see the company stopping the sale of the game anytime soon, but you have to wonder by now how many people don’t already have a copy. 130 million copies sold is a huge number and I’m sure that those who wanted to play the game already have by now.

Or could it be that Grand Theft Auto VI is so far out that we won’t see it anytime soon? A big component of Rockstar Game’s development, Dan Houser, co-founder of the studio and was heavily involved in the writing of most the games from the studio announced his departure back during February 2020. There’s little doubt that his departure has affected any future title development.

For now, I suppose you can pick up a copy of GTAV if you haven’t already and check out the single-player content, or jump online and have some fun.

Grand Theft Auto V is currently available on PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC.
