Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Leads The Way For EVO 2019’s Entrant Numbers

The signups for this year’s Evolution Championship Series have concluded, with several games boosting some of the biggest numbers ever seen for the event. EVO’s president Joey Cuellar (@MrWiz) announced the entrant numbers via a tweet earlier today.

  • Super Smash Bros. Ultimate – 3492
  • Street Fighter V – 1929
  • Tekken 7 – 1885
  • Samurai Shodown – 1719
  • Mortal Kombat 11 – 1567
  • Under Night In-Birth Exe:Late[st] – 1156
  • Dragon Ball FighterZ – 1191
  • SoulCalibur VI – 742
  • BlazBlue Cross Tag Battle – 640

Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. Ultimate surpassed every other game with 3492 entrants. Which could very well be due to Super Smash Bros. Melee no longer being on the roster, Ultimate is the only Nintendo brawler in town. Either way, I’m sure there’s a number of people being upset that a game that isn’t seen as a true fighting game claimed the top spot.

Surprisingly, Dragon Ball FighterZ managed to surpass 1000 entrants. Despite everyone claiming that the game is dead, there’s definitely enough interest for one more amazing tournament. The biggest surprise, however, is Samurai Shodown with 1719 players. Even though the game was only recently released, it’s been received well and I’m glad to see SamSho return. Even if I’m no longer playing the game.

EVO 2019 takes place from August 2nd – August 4th, 2019, at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada. Can’t make it out? Not to worry as just like every year, the main games will be streamed for all to see.
