One of the biggest RPGs in recent years, Metaphor: ReFantazio, is making its way over to the Nintendo Switch 2, and I swear, this console is starting to have all the momentum of the Super Nintendo. Considering the number of major third-party games heading to Nintendo’s latest console, that’s great news for Switch 2 owners.
ATLUS has officially opened pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Metaphor: ReFantazio, ahead of its November 12, 2026 release. ATLUS also kicked off a new series of character trailers for the game, with the protagonist getting the spotlight first.
And if you somehow missed Metaphor: ReFantazio when it originally launched in 2024, there’s a reason this is such a big pickup for the Switch 2. The fantasy RPG earned a 94 Metacritic score and took home Best Role-Playing Game, Best Narrative, and Best Art Direction at The Game Awards 2024. It also became ATLUS’ fastest-selling game at launch, selling more than one million copies on its first day.
We loved the game ourselves. In our review of Metaphor: ReFantazio on PC, we called it “A Modern Fantasy Classic,” and our reviewer walked away incredibly impressed with what ATLUS delivered.
Metaphor: ReFantazio takes players to the United Kingdom of Euchronia, where the assassination of the king throws the kingdom into chaos. Players take control of a young protagonist who enters a tournament for the throne while attempting to break a curse placed upon the kingdom’s prince. Along the way, you’ll build relationships with allies, unlock powerful Archetypes, explore the kingdom, and take part in a combat system that blends traditional turn-based battles with real-time action.
As for me, I loved Metaphor: ReFantazio, even if I never got around to finishing it, though I was really close. The visuals were fantastic, the music was incredible, and I especially loved the monk chanting in the battle theme. I still listen to that track to this day. If you’re a Nintendo Switch 2 owner, I’d absolutely call Metaphor: ReFantazio a must-play. Seriously.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Metaphor: ReFantazio launches on November 12, 2026, with pre-orders available now. The game is currently available on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Windows PC, and Steam.
