Battlefield V is Getting Real Money Microtransactions Tomorrow

By Diego PerezApril 3, 2019
Battlefield V

“Battlefield Currency”, which can be purchased with real money, is coming to Battlefield V on April 4.

Since launch, Battlefield V has had only one form of currency: Company Coin. Company Coin is earned through gameplay and can be used to purchase weapon and vehicle specializations as well as cosmetic items for each of Battlefield V‘s four classes. Battlefield Currency can be used to buy cosmetics like Company Coin, but there are a few new things coming to Battlefield V‘s store that can only be acquired with the new premium currency.

Elite sets and time savers are coming to Battlefield V, but at a later date. Elite sets let you play as a distinct soldier with a unique name and background. The sets include an array of cosmetic items, voice lines, unique best squad animations, and exclusive special assignments that further flesh out the story behind these elite characters. Upon completing the special assignments, you’ll be rewarded with a signature melee weapon.

Time savers are nothing new to the Battlefield franchise. Later this spring, you’ll be able to pay for two types of time savers: Tier Catch-Ups and XP Boosts. Tier Catch-Ups unlock chapter reward items, which are normally unlocked through gameplay, similar to a battle pass. XP Boosts accelerate the amount of XP earned through gameplay, assisting players in leveling up their weapons, vehicles, and classes.

Battlefield Currency can also be used to acquire starter packs, which contain various cosmetics, currency, and time savers.

The Battlefield V Starter Pack contains:

  • 500 Battlefield Currency
  • Glacial – Face paint (Rare)
  • Night Owl – Weapon Skin Set (Rare) for four weapons:
    • Sturmgewehr 1-5
    • Sten
    • KE7
    • Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I

The Battlefield V Premium Starter Pack contains:

  • 3,500 Battlefield Currency
  • Demolisher – Axis Soldier Outfit (Epic)
  • Cool Hand Duke – Allied Soldier Outfit (Epic)
  • Skorpion – Panzer IV Vehicle Skin (Rare)
  • Icefire – Spitfire MK VA Vehicle Skin (Rare)
  • Chromed Finish – Weapon Skin Set (Rare) for four weapons:
    • Sturmgewehr 1-5
    • Sten
    • KE7
    • Lee-Enfield No.4 Mk I

Elite sets are slated to launch during Chapter 3 of Battlefield V, which began with the launch of the Firestorm battle royale mode last month, and time savers are due later this spring.

When he's not playing video games, Diego's talking about video games, and he does both a lot.
