Live-Action ‘Aladdin’ Film Gets New Preview…And Blue Genie

By Todd BlackFebruary 10, 2019
Aladdin

Disney is betting big on their live-action films this year. Because for the first time, they’re releasing three in ONE year. Dumbo, The Lion King, and Aladdin. The first look at the live-action tale of an “Arabian Night” was met with mixed reactions because of the lack of certain context on some characters, like Will Smith’s Genie of the Lamp. But now, via the Grammys, we have a new “preview”, and it answers a couple really big questions.

First off, we got a look at Iago, the “Cave Of Wonders”, and a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it look at the magic carpet, who does indeed look to be CGI for the most part (I’m sure they’ll use a real carpet for certain scenes). But the big reveal was the confirmation of Genie indeed being blue when we first meet him. We don’t get to see much of him, just a clip of him talking about himself (in Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fashion), but it does give us a look at how he looks.

The internet is very mixed on how Genie looks. Some dig it, others don’t. But as in all things, it’s up to you dear viewer to judge and discuss whether you’ll go and watch Aladdin when it comes out on May 24th.
