It’s that time again, time for the nominees for the 91st Academy Awards or the Oscars as everyone else calls them. And as always there’s a great list of films, actors and various others on this year’s list. However, one particular nomination caught my eye. Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’ has made the cut and rightfully so.
Not only was it nominated for Best Picture, but it also landed on several other categories; Sound Editing, Sound Mixing and Costume Design and Original Song with Kendrick Lamar’s/SZA’d “All The Stars”. So there’s a high chance that the film will win an award in one of these categories.
It could also make history if it does end up winning an award for best picture. As a superhero film has yet to win the coveted award. While there have been many films that received the nomination, such as ‘The Dark Knight’ and ‘Logan’, none have won. So here’s to hoping ‘Black Panther’ can pull it off and make even more history.
In addition, several other of my favorites from 2018 also made the list. Both the ‘Incredibles 2’ and ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’ for Best Animated Feature. I’m pretty excited about this also.
As well as ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ and ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ for Visual Effects. I’m a bit surprised that Post Malone’s and Swae Lee’s “Sunflower” didn’t make it in for Original Song. Especially since everyone’s been either humming or singing the song since it dropped during ‘Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse’. I know I can’t stop, I love this track.
The 91st Academy Awards Show will take place on Sun, Feb. 24, 2019, at 5:00 PM PST / 8:00 PM EST.
