E3 2018: Gears Of War 5 Announced, Kait Is the Main Protagonist

The biggest Gears of War title to date

Gears of War 5, the second title of the second trilogy of Gears of War was announced during Microsoft’s E3 2018 conference. Of course, we knew this was coming but that doesn’t mean that the announcement hasn’t floored me.

Where do I begin? First up, the series is changing things up and for the first time ever, we’re seeing a female protagonist as the main character. For those who’ve missed out on Gears of War 4, part 5 follows up after the loss of Kait’s mother. And while we’re not sure how far along we are in the new story, we’re seeing that everyone else (expect Kait) recognizes the medallion around Kait’s neck as being of the locust. The same one she got from her grandmother. This sets the story into motion and damn does it look engrossing.

Outside of that, we’re being told that Gears of War 5 will also support 4K, HDR, 60FPS. on top of slipt-screen co-op.  This promises to be the biggest Gears of War title to date, which really excites me. Lastly, the title will be available on Xbox Game Pass when it launches.

The world is crumbling. Humanity’s reliance on technology has become their downfall and enemies are uniting to wipe out all survivors. As Kait you must journey across the biggest, most beautiful Gears world to uncover the origins of the Locust, and fight with your squad to protect what’s left.

Gears 5 is the next major title in the Gears series for Xbox One and Windows 10, built right here at The Coalition. Gears 5 is set to be the biggest Gears experience yet as you skim across glaciers, sail over deserts and descend into sunken ruins as Kait – all playable in Co-Op both online and on the couch. As with every Gears game, we’re pushing Gears 5 to be a visual showcase for Xbox fans with up to 4K resolution with stunning HDR and ALL at 60 frames per second.

But what the heck happened to JD’s arm? Who exactly was that who died and why is Kait so devastated. And is she slowly becoming a new queen of the locust, with all the visions that she’s recently having? All these questions and a lot more will be addressed in Gears of War 5.

We don’t have a release date, outside of a 2019 window. Of course, we’ll update once we know more about Gears of War 5.
