Dave Bautista Wants to Star in ‘Gears of War’ Film

By Charlie ShawJune 9, 2018

Anyone else interested in seeing Drax the Destroyer fight off the subterranean Locust Horde?

During a Twitter Q&A with Gamespot to promote the film Hotel Artemis, a fan asked actor Dave Bautista about his dream role and if he’ll ever play Marcus Fenix in a Gears of War movie. Turns out – playing Marcus Fenix is his dream role:

“It’s so funny you mentioned that because I have been pursuing Gears of War for years now. I believe it’s in the hands of Universal Studios, and I have been knocking on their door and badgering them and they are so sick of me … calling them and asking them where they are with that project … Yes, Marcus Fenix is absolutely a dream role for me.”

It honestly doesn’t sound too farfetched. Dave Bautista does share a striking similarity with the Gears of War protagonist, and the wrestler-turned-actor’s recent work in films shows that he is quite capable of turning in solid performances. He has yet to land a lead role in a movie, but that shouldn’t stop him from landing his dream role.

Currently, Microsoft is working with Universal Studios to bring the gaming franchise to the big screen. The announcement for the film adaptation was made in 2016. Scott Stuber (Ted) and Dylan Clark (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) are serving as the film’s producers. As of now, the film is in pre-production, and no news on casting has been announced.

As for the Gaming series, it’s rumored that Microsoft plans to unveil three new games in the Gears of War franchise at E3.
