Horizon Lunar Colony Assault Map Coming To Overwatch

By Keith MitchellMay 31, 2017

What’s that? Did you want a new assault map in Overwatch? Well, Blizzard has you covered. In fact, they’ve just announced a new map – Horizon Lunar Colony, that will be coming to the PC, PS4 and Xbox One. For the past few days, Blizzard has been teasing something over at the Overwatch blog and it’s been happening on this map. Of course, many speculated it would be either a new character, map or both.

Horizon Lunar Colony is an Assault map set in a scientific base on the moon. Built as a first step towards humanity’s renewed exploration of space, the colony’s goal was to examine the effects of prolonged extraterrestrial habitation—on human and ape alike. The scientists’ research proved incredibly promising…until, suddenly, all contact and communications with the base were lost.

Now, many years later, attacking and defending teams must return to the moon and battle for control of the colony’s facilities, all while they discover clues as to the fate of its previous inhabitants.

This also happens to be the former home of Overwatch’s gorilla tank, Winston. So this will be a sort of homecoming for him. I wonder what exactly what special thing will Blizzard have in store for him when he gets there. Looking at the map a few times, there’s definitely a lot of potential for some open battles, as well as some ambushes.

A new character also doesn’t seem to be far fetched either. On the map, there’s a screen that shows that two specimens, 8  and 28, are missing. Specimen 28 is Winston, however, number 8 which is named Hammond is still unaccounted for. Are we going to see yet another gorilla based character? The signs are pointing to that we may, in due time.

No word on when exactly we’ll see the map be put into rotation. As always, Blizzard is simply saying “soon”. Hopefully soon means in a few hours and not a few weeks.
