Overwatch Meets Neon Genesis Evangelion with Fan Parody

By Josh PiedraJuly 20, 2016
overwatch

It’s no secret that Blizzard’s Overwatch has been an insanely popular first person shooter.  Because as such, there have been many fan animations, especially within the anime community. YouTuber Vesekelov is no exception to that as he adds his name to the list of people who are producing Anime x Overwatch mashups. In his verison, he crosses Overwatch with the opening to Gainax’s smash hit Neon Genesis Evangelion.  The audio is a bit warped, but it was done on purpose to give off an older feel to it. Afterall, Neon Genesis Evangelion did air 20 years ago!

The opening parody prominently features everyone’s favorite Overwatch character and waifu to many, D.Va.  It is set to the show’s iconic theme “Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis (A Cruel Angel’s Thesis)” by Yoko Takahashi. As such, this is the birth of Neon Genesis D.Vangelion!

In you’d like, you can also take a listen to an Extra Credit Edition of the A-01 podcast where myself and Mark Sullivan reflect on that particular anime.
