The R Ratings are in! Wolverine to go into the “adult market”

By Karl SmartFebruary 17, 2016

Could we be seeing the evolution of the X-Men franchise? 20th Century Fox revealed at Toy Fair 2016 that they would be targeting an R-rating for Hugh Jackman’s final run as Wolverine next year.

This news stems from the success of their recent release, and box office success, Deadpool (which you can read the review of here). A pamphlet distributed to people who attended the Toy Fair presentation of upcoming properties states that the Anticipated Rating for the upcoming Hugh Jackman send off to the Wolverine franchise is going to be a R rating; along with a March 3rd 2017 theatrical release date & a Summer 2017 home media release date.

Wolverine - Pamphlet

At the moment it looks like we’ll be seeing a more violent and adult Wolverine in the cinemas come March, which is not a bad thing as the guy does slash guys open with claws and told Professor X to “fuck off” in the X-Men: First Class movie. I’m all for this adult revolution in Marvel movies as an older comic book reader who knows that the medium is able to tell, and has told, more adult themed stories… I just hope that this time the parents listen when the fans say that the movie is NOT FOR KIDS!
